A look at the Wheat Cargo of 65,000 MT (Two Shipments) being handled for MMTC After a span of 30 years, the first consignment of food grain started from Mormugao Port during 2012-13. The contract for the first shipment of wheat was awarded to us by Minerals and Metals Trading Corporation (MMTC). This was our first consignment of food grain handling involving skilled labour which was handled by us efficiently without any hindrance and contamination to cargo. Wheat is received at Mormugao Port by rakes from Punjab, Haryana & M.P.and then shifted to the godowns in the port in trucks and the work begins by unloading the trucks and then stacking the bags in the huge storage sheds that have been properly fumigated and also pesticide treatment has been undertaken before moving the bags inside. After this the workers gather together to de-bag the entire wheat consignment since the wheat has to be loaded in the vessel in the loose form and not in bags. All this work requires a lot of care and attention since our main aim is to keep the Cargo free from contamination. The wheat consignment is then moved to the jetty where the Vessel is berthed and the loading operations commence. The entire operation from receiving the material in trucks to the final loading into the hatches of the Vessel is all very well co-ordinated and the completion is done in record time as required by the clients.
